KBUT finally received the new albums from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (right after I purchased it on iTunes) and The Decemberists, so it was a mildly exciting day at the studio. Among the endless photo blog posts from SXSW, there were some good new tunes posted, so enjoy the links this week. Thanks to Kyle's friend Bill who started the Someday I'll be Dignified & Old blog that inspired the first 4 songs of the day.

Wishing I Was in Austin

3/16 Show
Yep, I'm totally missing out on the fun in Austin this week. Maybe next year when I don't have an epic backcountry ski race to prepare for. I did, however, DJ at a crazy Robot Dance Party on Monday night that almost made up for not being at SXSW.

Played lots of "older" tracks this week, meaning songs I might have played a year or two ago but haven't since then. Check out the new EP from Surf City, hosted by Kyle's friend on his new blog "Someday I'll be Dignified and Old".

Cutdown

3/9 Show
Bad news found its way to Music is My Girlfriend headquarters Monday morning as I learned the upcoming Cut Copy ("MIMG's Best Album of 2008" winner) show in Denver had sold out. Chances of scoring free tickets through KBUT are dwindling, so I may be standing outside the Bluebird on Sunday night pestering concert goers for tickets. Naturally, I mourned this development by playing several Cut Copy songs.

On the bright side, KBUT's home page will now display the Song Title and Artist of each song I play in real-time. Its a pretty cool feature, and I was happy to be the Guinea Pig for it today during my show.

Jump in the Pool

2/23 Show
Post-pledge drive shows always feel easy. Fewer things to read, no phones to answer, no begging for money. In this spirit, Monday's show was a breeze and a pleasure to DJ. I chiefly highlighted the new Pains of Being Pure at Heart album and the Dark Was the Night Compilation. I'm falling into a nice routine of previewing upcoming record releases (this week: Pomegranates (4/14), Papercuts (4/14), Thermals<4/7), Phoenix (5/25)) and concerts (this week: Modest Mouse, Andrew Bird, Loney Dear, Young Coyotes).

Everyone Gets a Star

2/16 Show
KBUT's Winter 2009 Pledge Drive continues to roll on, smashing expectations as we reached $23,565 by the end of my show on Monday. While Music is My Girlfriend was not quite as prolific as the shows before mine on Monday, I am still quite happy with the $250 raised during my show. Thanks to all my friends and family who pledged!

A bevy of worthwhile albums saw their US release today (February 17th): Hold Time by M Ward, The Blue Depths by Odawas, Tight Knit by Vetiver, and the compilation Dark Was the Night. I played tracks from all of the above, as well as tracks from the highly anticipated new albums from The Thermals & The Decemberists. You might also notice a small Strokes/Strokes-side-projects set.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the new self-titled album from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Its terrific.
